Our Heritage

Perched on the headland above Monkstone beach, Trevayne Farm has been running since 1935, passed down through three generations. We wanted our knitwear to be the same, heirloom pieces, to be passed down through generations.

Founded in 2010 by Anna Reed (then Felton), Monkstone Knitwear was based on the design principles of permaculture. These include; to produce no waste, use small and slow solutions to set production limits and to make the best use of nature's abundance, reducing consumption and dependence on non-renewable resources.

Monkstone started with one flock made up of two breeds, Black Welsh Mountain and Dorset sheep, championing small-batch, made-to-order knitwear and collections made to last.

The Land

Over time, we have further diversified the farm. Moving from one flock to a shop, introducing new products through collaborating with local craftspeople to create a community and local supply chain. All our products are still made to last and always tested on the farm.

The land here at Trevayne Farm provides inspiration all year round, as we take in the changing of colours, scents and accept the offerings that the land gives us.

We launched Monkstone Meadows as a platform to share our seasonal produce, supplying home grown flowers, vegetables and grass fed, pasture raised lamb, pork and beef, and being able to further build a community who value locality, sustainability and quality.

Farming, gardening and floristry increasingly influences our design process at Monkstone. Like the seasons, Monkstone goods are ever changing, and we want our customers to feel part of the story.
